Iron-on vinyl is a unique type of material that has a heat-activated adhesive, and it is also called HTV (heat transfer vinyl). This can be used to create designs and texts on fabrics, paper, wood, and other materials. Let’s dive deeper into learning everything about iron-on vinyl.
Iron-on vinyl, also known as heat transfer vinyl, is available in a variety of colors and textures and can be used on many materials, including cotton, polyester, nylon, etc. It is a popular choice for decorating apparel, bags, wall hangings, cushions, and more. Iron-on vinyl comes with a transfer sheet known as the carrier sheet. When you have cut out your vinyl design, you need to remove the extra part, and then you iron it, and you will remove the carrier sheet after ironing. So, unlike regular adhesive vinyl, you do not need to use transfer tape because the carrier sheet does the job.

The following step-by-step instructions will show you how to use iron on vinyl Cricut:
First, open the Design Space app and create a new project. Then, you can browse the Cricut library and choose a pre-made design, or you can upload your own SVG file. For my tote bag, I have chosen a library-themed tote bag, and if you want to write something, use the text tool and resize it accordingly. After that, I attach everything so it stays in the same position when I load it on the mat. When your design is complete, click the Make It button and follow the ahead process.
On the next screen, you will see a mat preview, which will give you an idea of how it will look on the mat. Make sure to select the Mirror option before you put the vinyl on the cutting mat. It is important to flip the design on the mat because you cut vinyl upside down and to make sure the designs look right when applied to the final project. After mirroring the design, click the Continue button in the bottom-right corner.
On the next screen, you will need to select your specific material from the list of materials. You will see that there are slightly different pressure settings for different types of vinyl. Now, choose your iron-on material.
When you are done choosing the material, put the iron-on vinyl onto the mat and put the glossy side of the vinyl facing down to cut the matte side, leaving the carrier sheet intact. Some colors are the same on the front and back, so make sure that the shiny side is against the mat.
Once you are done placing your design on the mat, insert it into the machine and then click on the Go button to start the cutting process.
Now that your design is cut peel the mat from your iron-on vinyl. You can peel the vinyl from the mat, but there is a high chance that it will curl. So, this method is great. Afterward, use your weeding tool to eliminate the extra parts that you don’t need in your design.
When you are done with your design, it is time to place it on your tote bag. Before you apply your iron-on vinyl to your tote bag, you can preheat it using a heat press so that the design sticks properly. Next, place a folded towel inside the bag so it does not get curled up. After that, place your design on the tote bag, and above it, place your parchment paper; it should be bigger than the size of the design. Now, use your EasyPress iron on it, and it is done.
